Explain how sediments on the ocean floor vary in relation to an ridge?

The youngest, thinnest sediments are found near the spreading ridge. The thickness and age of the sediments on the ocean floor increases away from the ridge. This is because new ocean crust is forming at the ridge and moving away, so more time has been available for sediments to collect the further away from the ridge you go.
